The National Tourism Data Supply Centre (NTAK) is a modern digital reporting system operated by the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ). Its main goal is to increase the competitiveness of domestic tourism. Digitising the sector makes it possible to collect anonymised traffic and statistical data from every accommodation in Hungary in real time. This volume of up-to-date information opens entirely new opportunities for tourism development, so the MTÜ can produce more accurate forecasts and run more effective marketing — with a long-term goal of reaching 50 million guest nights by 2030.
Administrative and tax burdens for accommodation providers will also decrease. A medium-term goal is for NTAK to replace reporting towards NAV, KSH and Artisjus, as well as the guest book required by the local municipality. Beyond paperless administration, NTAK also plays an important role in reducing the black and grey economy. As a result of whitening the sector, VAT on accommodation services fell from 18% to 5% from 1 January 2020.
A basic condition of reporting is that data can only be submitted to NTAK through a hotel PMS. That is why accommodations operating with more than 8 rooms and 16 bed places must choose an NTAK-compatible PMS.
